Acoustic Treatment for Home Recording Studios
UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL OF YOUR HOME STUDIO - CAPTURE MORE ACCURATE AUDIO AND REDUCE UNWANTED NOISE
Whether you are planning a bedroom studio, a music room or a purpose designed space, there are two essential questions:
1. How should I handle noise leaking in or out of the studio?
2. How can I ensure the sound quality inside the room is fit for purpose?
By answering these two questions, we can ensure that your equipment isn't limited by the spaces you use it in.
IS YOUR RECORDING SPACE LIMITING THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR EQUIPMENT?
Question 1 is about ‘sound isolation’. Is there outside noise that could affect your recordings or prevent you from hearing the mix clearly? Do you have neighbours or businesses nearby that might complain about your music?
Sound isolation often involves construction work of some kind. Heavy materials must be used and there can be no weak points or gaps in the structure.
Forget the numerous myths – mattresses, carpet on the walls and acoustic foam will do virtually nothing to contain noise. In fact, there are no simple solutions and no magic products.
Mass, decoupling and damping are the goals here, and they can only be achieved with the right design, selection of materials and installation methods for your particular room. That is where we come in – get in touch if you would like some help with your sound proofing plans.
Question 2, “How can I ensure the sound quality inside the room is fit for purpose?”, is answered with acoustic treatment and by optimising the layout of the room.
Your monitor speakers should be set up properly and their positions tweaked to get the flattest response possible.
Bass traps can then be added to the corners for a more even response and decay of the low frequencies.
Acoustic tiles are installed at the first reflection points. Start on the front portion of the side walls and ceiling, followed by the front and rear walls.
We may recommend some diffusion or additional absorption towards the back of the room if there are remaining problems or you want to make an area more suitable for tracking instruments or vocals.
Two complex subjects condensed into a few paragraphs – what could possibly go wrong?! All you need to know is that we are here to help and that it is our passion to support musicians, engineers and producers in creating the kind of recording studios that their art deserves.
